Laboratory Analysis of an Asphalt Mixture Overlay Reinforced with a Biaxial Geogrid

Geosynthetic materials have been demonstrated to be an accurate element in civil engineering, specifically the field of pavement. Regarding implementation these asphalt mixture layers, geosynthetics, such as geotextile and geogrid, used delay crack propagation and/or increase fatigue life. However, use material is based on experience learned or results obtained from testing a reduced scale laboratory. This research work aims at evaluating influence that geogrids reinforcement layer samples. Within this context, work, two types large-scale samples (with without reinforcement) are subjected monotonic load under support conditions (simple granular base). The were summarized with load-line displacement diagram, where parameters peak load, displacement, stiffness, fracture analyzed. reveal geogrid experiences double benefit since it withstands greater magnitudes delays appearance rutting problems. To conclude, for layers strongly impact their mechanical behavior, increasing service life pavement structure.
